SUMO FAMILY UPDATE
January 06, 2025
Dear Sumo + Sushi Family,
Over the past months, many of you have reached out with questions about our next tour dates, and we want to take a moment to address them. While we know how much you were looking forward to the unforgettable experience we create together, the delay of our Fall 2024 West Coast Tour was due to a deeply personal and meaningful reason.
Our Summer 2024 East Coast Tour was a memorable experience for all of us. Behind the scenes, however, Konishiki was quietly facing significant health challenges. With his signature strength and dedication, he delivered incredible performances in New York City, Washington D.C., Nashville and Chicago, leaving lasting memories for everyone in attendance. After the last Chicago show concluded, he sought immediate medical care in Chicago before returning to Japan.
In the months that followed, Konishiki underwent a life-changing kidney transplant. This would not have been possible without the expertise of his exceptional medical team in Japan and the extraordinary generosity of his wife, Chie, who selflessly became his donor. The surgery was a success, and both Konishiki and Chie are now on the path to recovery. We are profoundly inspired by their combined courage and grateful for the unwavering support surrounding him during this time.
While this moment required us to pause, it has only deepened our commitment to bringing you the best possible Sumo + Sushi experience. We are excited to announce that we are actively working together with Konishiki to plan a larger, more extraordinary U.S. tour for 2025. Details about cities and dates will be shared soon, and we can’t wait to reconnect with all of you in the year ahead.
Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support during this time. Please join us in sending love, healing thoughts, and well wishes to Konishiki and Chie as they move forward from this journey together.
With gratitude and excitement for the future,
Sam, Cassie & The Sumo + Sushi Team
